About Johan Steyn

Bio
He challenged himself to master various processes of technology in a formal career, including engraving and working with titanium, which was a complicated material to master.
In his late 40s, Johan became a professional artist, and his solo exhibition – “They are disappearing” (South African wildlife, endangered species – oil on canvas) was a successful endeavor.
He then semi-grated to Muizenberg in the Western Cape and developed as a bronze sculptor focusing on African wildlife, human figures, busts, and angels. His “Minky and the Sunbird” range, on view exclusively at Art@Africa Gallery, tells of the unique bond between artist, animal and child. This was his 2nd solo exhibition in 2022.
His subject matter must resonate with him to create his art. He is passionately and emotionally involved in his craftsmanship. He uses form and colour to create poetry and emotion in his work.
The sculptures and works of this maverick artist speak to his uncompromising dedication and value system as a human, making a positive contribution to art and society.
